Letter From the Water Quality Committee
The Water Quality Committee is a group of volunteers who share a concern about the health of our lake. We are not the “property police” but we do make suggested guidelines regarding how you can care for your lakefront property in a manner that is not damaging to the lake. Reports provided to LWIA members speak about the causes for the decline in the lake quality, if that is the case, and will include suggestions for how each of us can protect the lake.
When advisories are received from the NH Department of Environmental Services, it is our responsibility to pass that information on to all of you, which we do through the LWIA website. Unless the state specifically prohibits an activity due to contamination, the information forwarded is a suggestion, not a command. Apparently, at the June LWIA meeting, there was some confusion about the lake quality information and the safety of returning to the water, following a Cyanobacteria bloom.
Please know that we will never tell property owners what they can and cannot do with their lakefront property. When we see something that we know to be in violation of state code, we might make the property owner aware of the violation but we don’t report that information to the state. We may ask the state for further guidance without naming names. Our hope is that owners will want to be in compliance with water quality standards and shoreline guidelines to preserve the lake for future generations.
Thank you.
