Bald Eagles Spotted on Winona
Last week, Linda Heminway saw a single adult Bald Eagle with white head and tail feathers (mature, at least 4 years old to have the white) and this morning there was an adult accompanied by a fledgling immature eagle.
She has been on Winona for 56 years and has never seen a Bald Eagle fly over the lake. Both sightings occurred mid-to-late morning and they flew from the West, went over Boulder Island and then headed east from that direction.
Residents are encouraged to report any sightings, the time of day and direction the eagles are flying to NH Fish and Game. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Wildlife/Wildlife_profiles/profile_bald_eagle.htm
Bald Eagles are endangered and, to date, only 14 pairs have been reported in the entire state. The water clarity we strive for on Winona may actually encourage them to nest and/or fish here!!!!! All we have seen, so far, is a “fly over” but we are greatly encouraged and enthusiastic.
