The Lake Waukewan and Lake Winona Watershed Steering Committee has conducted a10-year study focused on long-term water quality and lowering in-lake phosphorus, sediment inputs, and polluted runoff in the watershed. For decades the Loon Preservation Committee has been putting leg bands on NH loons to track long-term habits and population. The male loon who has nested on Lake Winona successfully since 2017 has green and silver bands.  The male loon has been verified, with photo evidence, to have returned this season.  The current nesting female is a newcomer who has not yet been banded.  The female that was our male loon’s long-time mate did not reappear on Lake Winona this…

The Lake Waukewan and Lake Winona Watershed Steering Committee is seeking a volunteer to represent Lake Winona in its discussions and review of the 2016 restoration project to protect the long-term water quality of our lakes. The 10-year project focused on lowering in-lake phosphorus, sediment inputs, and polluted runoff by 10% in Lake Waukewan and 5-10% in Lake Winona.
